Things keep changing. Usually it’s for the better, but sometimes the old ways are the best ways. I don’t think not like Grandma when it comes to the newest tech and computers (because I like to use them, and feel like I need them these days while she doesn’t even use a computer). However, when it comes to some things Grandma does know best. Check below for my top three life hacks (or tips) from Grandma.
1- Use Rose water to fix a bad tummy ache
Everyone has had a bad stomach ache at some point in their lives. But what is the best thing to do to fix it? You can try pepto bismol or other over the counter types medicines like it, but I always like to have some good old Rose water on hand to help with the problem.
I remember having a terrible stomach ache when I was younger and visiting my grandparents place. It was hurting so bad that I had to curl up into a little ball just sit there waiting for the pain to go away. Grandma came over and gave me a small shot of Rose water and told me to drink it. It didn’t taste very well, but my stomach felt better within a few minutes after taking it. It felt like a miracle.
Even to this day I would rather use Rose water over any other stomach medicine. Pepto Bismol will work sometimes, but there are other times where it just doesn’t do the trick. Whatever is in the Rose water gets into your stomach and starts fighting the pain immediately. Try it the next time you have a tummy ache. (but please go see a doctor if you don’t get better)
2- Make your coffee taste better with salt
Good coffee can be really expensive. I like to buy whatever is on sale, but sometimes I’ll go for the more expensive stuff if I’m in the mood. However there’s a little trick you can try to make your coffee taste better even if it’s just the cheap stuff. The next time you make your coffee try adding a little bit of salt with the grounds, and then just brew it like you normally would.
The salt will reduce the bitterness which will make the coffee brew out smoother than it would without the salt. The salt counteracts with the coffee to get rid of the bitterness, so you’re not getting a better quality coffee, but you might think that you’re drinking something better. Some people swear by this trick. Try it for yourself and see how it goes. Start out with a small amount of salt mixed in, and then you can up it a bit more the next time. Don’t go overboard on the salt though.
3- Olive oil for an earache
Sometimes your ears start to hurt and you don’t have any ear drops around for a fix. And you don’t feel like driving out to the store to get any either. So what are you to do? Just deal with the pain? You could, but you could also try some olive oil in the ear for the pain.
Just put a drop of olive oil just as you would with any other ear drops. Then you just need to stay on your side to keep the olive oil in there so that it can start soothing your pain. Olive oil does has some power in fighting infections in the ear, but it’s not going to cure anything. This is just really to help with the pain until you can go see a doctor and get things corrected. It’s amazing how it can soothe the pain immediately though. Try it the next time your ear aches.
