If you’re looking to cut your grocery bill in half without using coupons then there’s really just one thing you need to do. Buy the store brands from the right places.

If you like getting national name brand items then you’re not going to pay half price unless you wait for sales and use some coupons. Even when you do that there’s going to be times where something isn’t on sale. If you want to be able to consistently get things at low prices then you’ll have to start shopping at the right places for groceries.

Where do you shop for groceries to get them “half off”?

The best places to do it is Aldi, Walmart, and Trader Joe’s. If you’ve never heard of or never been in a Trader Joe’s or an Aldi then I’d highly recommend you give it a shot. You may be surprised by what you find.

Starting off with Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe’s might be described as your affordable whole foods supermarket. It has that image of being of higher quality with healthy organic options to choose from. For the most part that’s true. You will find a lot of certified Organic options, and their prices are better than whole foods. If you’re comparing them to a place like Aldi or Walmart though they might not quite beat them on price.

Trader Joe’s may beat them on quality organic options though so you should definitely be checking this place out for groceries. When I first walked into one of these places I was pleasantly surprised at the display and options. If you look closely at the ingredients in some of the food options you’ll happy with what you see in the organic options. They have great store brand items that sell for less than a lot of the big box grocery store competitors.

Try out Aldi for great prices

If you’re looking for good quality groceries at a great price then Aldi is the place to be. They have everyone else beat on price, and that includes your local Walmart. A lot of the stuff for sale here is even cheaper than the grocery stores when they put their items on sale.

Need an example of prices? Let’s check out my weekly ad for this week and see what we find.

$1.49 5 lbs potatoes
$.85 bread
$1.39 4 lbs sugar
$2.29 gallon milk
$.79 dozen eggs

And that’s just the short list of essentials they have at great prices. They keep their prices low by providing store brands and by keeping their overhead low with smaller stores and less employees. You’ll have to bag your own groceries and bring your own bags in, but you’ll save some money doing it.

Walmart is fighting back

If you have an Aldi near a Walmart then you’re going to see the prices at your Walmart drop to fight the competition. Now you just have to decide where you’d rather shop and which store brand you prefer.

One thing is for sure though, Walmart is going to keep fighting the competition on pricing. This is all great for consumers because it hopefully means more money in our pockets after making the  weekly trip to the grocery store.

I encourage you to try out these 3 stores for groceries if you haven’t done so before. You may be surprised with what you find. The best part about these places is you don’t have to buy a huge amount in bulk to get the discount. You can buy in smaller amounts, and if you don’t like the product no big deal. And, oh yeah, if you don’t like what you buy from Aldi you can return it for a 100% money back guarantee, plus they’ll get you a replacement product.
