It’s Okay to buy new things. It can be a great feeling. Getting that new gadget or that new video game you’ve been wanting. Don’t stop there though. If you keep buying new things eventually you’ll have a pile of things that are just sitting there being unused.
Solution? You should try and find something you can sell. Not only will it help tidy up your house but you’ll also get some extra cash for the sale. That should help offset that new purchase just a bit.
Bought a new bike? Get rid of that old one you’re not riding anymore. Got a new microwave? Don’t just throw out that old one. Put it up for sale on Craigslist and someone will haul it out of your house and give you money. Buy a new TV? Great! Now you can get rid of that clunky big box heavy one you have. Guess what? Put it up for sale on Craigslist and someone will haul it out of there for you and pay you to be able to do it.
I recently put up one of my TVs for sale on Craigslist. It was a smaller 20 inch Sony TV that was manufactured in 2003. The TV weighed about 50 pounds. I listed it for $20. In about 2 weeks I got someone interested in the TV.
They wanted to come out to get it, but they couldn’t find anyone to help them carry it out of here and load it. He told me that he had a bad back and that he would need to find 2 people to do it for him. I told him not to worry about it and that I could just do it with my spouse. He reluctantly accepted after telling me that he would gladly pay me $20 for loading it. I told him that it wasn’t necessary, but he insisted so I accepted. A solid $40 for getting that old TV out of the house.
When do you sell something on eBay and when do you use Craigslist?
Sometime people wonder what they should use to sell their things. I always recommend Craigslist first because it’s free. It’s quick and free to make an account and list what you have for sale.
With eBay you’ll have to pay some fees in a few different places to list and sell your item. Plus you’ll have to figure out shipping costs and the costs of getting your shipping supplies for the shipment. You’ll need a box at a minimum, and you’ll need some type of padding to protect the item in shipment.
With Craigslist you can just have the person meet you somewhere and pick up the item. They give you the cash and you’re done.
However, sometimes what you’re selling has a better chance of being sold on eBay. Still though, in that case it’s still free to put up something on Craigslist. You have nothing to lose but the 5 minutes it takes to put up the listing.
