If you have any type of account with Comcast then there’s no denying that the cost of Cable TV, Internet, Phone, and Home Security service has been going up at a steady pace. It seems like every year my bill increases. Slowly creeping up higher some months when I least expect it.
The crazy part is that my monthly bill is now higher than what new customers are paying – for the same services that I have now. I don’t like this game that they play. They should just reward their loyal customers with the lowest rates. Wouldn’t that just be easier for everyone? Unfortunately that’s not how the cable companies do business. You have to just play ball or pay the higher fees. Play ball then you must…
I have no problem cutting that cable off
So what exactly do you need to do? First you should make sure that your bill is actually higher than what other places are charging for comparable services. More than likely you have at least one other competing choice for cable TV, internet, phone, and/or home security. Find out what types of deals they are doing there and do the math. Would it be cheaper for you to move everything over to those other companies? How much cheaper? Don’t forget to check with Comcast too. Comcast will advertise new offers all the time.
Unadvertised deals to save your money with Comcast Cable
Sometimes they don’t always advertise all the deals though. Sometimes you don’t have time to waste looking at all the different deals to see what’s cheaper. Sometimes you’re just lazy and you don’t want to spend the time changing all your service providers around.
This is how they get you. They know that it takes time to do all that work. They know that your choices are limited. Don’t give in though. This is what you do-
If you have the information from the competing companies then you can use this, but to make it easy let’s just say you don’t want to do all that work. If your bill has gone up a lot recently because it went off some sort of “promotion” they had you on then you should call into their 1800COMCAST number and get through the prompts to cancel. This could turn into a game of chicken to see who flinches first, but you don’t actually have to cancel anything. What you’re doing is calling in and getting through the prompts to cancel all services so you can get to their Retention department.
The people working at the retention department are usually employees that are based in the US somewhere that speak English well, and their number 1 priority is to keep you as a customer. So when you call in to cancel they are going to work with you to try and keep you.
The phone call will go something like this:
Comcast Rep: Hello, This is “Joe Comcast” with the retention department how may I help you?
You: Hi. My bill is too high and I can’t afford to pay it going forward. I want to cancel my service. ( If you’ve researched competitors you could also say, “I’m planning on switching to another provider with lower costs.”
After you say this the Comcast rep will try and figure out a way to keep you. What they should do is give you options of other promotions that are currently available that you can take advantage of. It may be for the same service you have now, it may be for a better upgraded service, or it may be for a downgraded service. However, they should give you choices. If they don’t offer choices then you should ask them.
Say something like, “What type of promotional deals can you put me in that would lower my bill so I can keep my business with you?”
They should give you options. If they don’t, then you can always politely hang up and call back again. You may have to play Russian roulette with the reps because you won’t always get one that is very helpful. Sometimes you get one that is lazy and doesn’t want to look up all the options you have. Just politely end the call and call back. You will most certainly be speaking with a new rep the second time around, and they can hopefully help you.
What do you do if you can’t get a lower bill anymore?
After doing this for a number of years you eventually may run into a wall where they say they won’t put you onto anymore promos. This is when you just have to grin and bear the cancelation. Cancel and go with the alternative. They should be offering you great new customer promotional rates. Then after you’ve exhausted your deals over at the new place you can come back to Comcast if you want and they should be offering you the new customer deals again.
If you live in a house with roommates then you can also get around this by canceling and then having your roommates sign up as a “new customer” with Comcast. This will get you those new customer promo rates again. I have also had success doing this with my spouse.
If all else fails get Comcast Corporate Executive customer service to help
If you can’t get through to the people at the 1-800 number then you will need to get through to Comcast Corporate executive customer service. These people will get the job done. I have spoken to a few of them, and most of them were great at getting my problem fixed, and my bills lowered.
How do you get to these people? Well, you could call into the 1-800 Comcast number you always call and ask to be transferred to a Comcast Corporate Executive customer service rep. However, if the person you talk to has no idea how to get you there then you’ll need to take advantage of social media at Facebook and Twitter and make yourself heard. When you do someone will get in touch with you and help solve your problem. Whatever you do, don’t give up! You can, and will lower that bill.
