Are you spending too much money shopping? Do you buy too much of anything? Do you buy clothes that you never wear? Yes, people do this kind of stuff, but when is it really a problem? When are you spending too much? That’s where this article comes in.
These are some signs that you may really have a problem with your spending. If any of these things sound like you then you need to look further into your spending and consider a solution.
1- Always breaking the budget
Do you have a monthly budget that you can allow yourself to use each month? Well, you should. But are you sticking to your budget? If you’re constantly going over your monthly spending limit that you’ve set for yourself to stay on track then something is wrong. Have a budget is one thing, but sticking to it is even more important.
2- buying stuff you don’t need
What kind of stuff are you buying? Do you need it? Do you use it? Are you always finding brand new items everywhere that have never been used. Things like unwrapped dvds, clothes with tags on them, and those extra set of headphones you still haven’t used. Stop it! If you have more than 1 or 2 items that are still brand new in your house then something is wrong.
3- You spend too much all the time
If you’re just overspending around important events and the holidays then it’s understandable, but if it’s happening all year long then something is definitely wrong. If you find yourself constantly going over your set budget each month then you need to really sit down and think about your spending habits.
4- You have to buy more than one of those
When you go shopping for things do you stick to your shopping list? If you need a new pair of shoes do you just buy one pair or do you come home with 3 or 4 pairs because they were on “sale”? If you can’t stick to your buying plan then something is wrong. You should never be buying so many duplicates of anything at once, unless it’s a ridiculously good deal of course.
5- feeling guilty after
How do you feel after that shopping spree? Do you feel good about everything you bought or do you feel guilty? Do you just feel terrible about spending all that money? Do you wish you hadn’t done it? It’s not a good sign if you’re coming home unhappy about what you bought. You should feel great about it. If you don’t feel great about what you bought most of the time then something is wrong and you need to fix it.
6- You’re hiding your shopping habits
Do you find yourself hiding your spending habits from everyone else? Maybe you’re hiding it from your husband, or maybe from your roommates? Do you have to hide that new necklace so nobody knows about it? Do you sneak around on your way in so that nobody sees you with bags? If you find yourself doing this then you have a problem. You shouldn’t have to hide your spending like that.
Do something about it
If you find that you do fit into any of these descriptions then you need to try to fix your problem. Some counseling may help, and maybe even talking to your doctor about it. You need to talk to somebody about it though. If you just keep it to yourself it will likely not change. Spending too much money paying for things is a real problem that people have to deal with. Just like any other addiction it can be hard to get back on track, but with a little help you can do it.
