These last few weeks I’ve been fighting with a bad case of Bronchitis. Or at least, that’s what the ER doctor told me I had. Strange, how everything in life can be going great, and then all of a sudden things aren’t well.
I don’t like going to see the doctor. I hate being in hospitals. Funny, because my dad is a doctor or more specifically a family practice specialist. I know I’m supposed to go get my doctors visit, but I just despise doing such things. I will however be making an appointment soon to see someone. It’s probably best to have a good doctor know your health.
The ER visit came because I was feeling very dizzy while my throat felt like it was closing up on me. It was a feeling I had never had before. I felt like I couldn’t breathe, and that at any second I was going to be completely out of breath. I had been sick for almost 3 weeks. It started like the flu, with a bit of a fever and some coughing. The fever went away within a week, but the coughing is still here almost 2 months later. I have never had a cough that lasted so long.
I’m doing much better now. I’ve since learned some breathing exercises that help with the feeling of not being able to breath. I was also given antibiotics in case it was something bacterial. However, 2 months since this cough started and I’m still getting some days where I cough a lot. I hope I can get rid of this soon.
How much will that ER visit cost you?
So the ER visit might have been a small mistake. The reason is because of finances. I’ll find out for sure where I get all the bills. For now it seems like the High deductible insurance I’m on may have helped me greatly with the cost. I won’t know for sure until I get the bill, but it’s looking good so far as the insurance company sent me some paperwork telling me how much was going towards my deductible for the year, and thankfully it was less than $150. I hope that’s true.
ER visits are usually the most expensive types of doctor’s visits. Obviously, if you have an emergency you should go to the ER and get what you need done. However, if it’s something that could be handled at an urgent care center somewhere then you might be able to save some money by going there instead. When I had to go there was actually an urgent care place that was still open for another hour, but we didn’t know about it so my wife took me to the ER instead. If we had planned beforehand we would have gone there instead. So, the first thing you should do right now is go ahead and figure out where you should go in case of an emergency. Depending on the time of day and your location at the time it will probably be many different places. Sit down and talk about it and figure it out!
Your health is what matters.
In the end it’s your health that matters most. Get yourself somewhere that can take care of your problem as soon as possible. Don’t skimp on your health. Without your health nothing else matters. It’s so important to be wise with your health. That doesn’t just mean exercising and eating right. It also means you need to be sure you have the right health insurance that covers you and your family in everyway that you need. For some people that may mean taking advantage of a high deductible plan that gives you the ability to put money into a Health Savings Account ( HSA). For other people it may mean something completely different.
I’ll go into these different health insurance plans some other time, but for now let’s just make sure you DO have health insurance. You have to take care of your health.
I’ll be sure to let you know how things go and whether or not my health insurance helped me with my recent ER visit. For now, it seems like it has.
