In this post I just wanted to talk about spending money on things. People save and save and save, but we’re all doing it for a reason. Sometimes it’s for paying the bills. Sometimes we’re trying to save for retirement. Sometimes we’re saving for something fun. Whatever we’re saving for though we are eventually spending our money on something. But what should we be spending our money on?

That’s a great question, and to be honest I think that answer to that question should be a little different for everyone. Why? Because I think you should be spending your money on what makes you happy. That’s the point isn’t it? And what makes you happy doesn’t necessarily make me happy. We likely want different things in life. So that means we’re going to spend on different things.

What are these thing we should spend on?

Regardless of these different things that we’re spending on there should be some type of common denominator in our spending habits, don’t you think? What it all boils down to is spending your money on things that you love and use every day. If you use it every day then it’s probably a good buy.

Now, I know that isn’t completely responsible to say. I could could a ferrari and use it every day so does that mean it’s a good buy? Well, if I could actually afford a Ferrari, then yes it would be. I can afford a Toyota so that’s what I have. I do use it almost every day though, so even though it wasn’t cheap to buy I find it to be a good “investment” in my life.

I know a car isn’t really an “investment” because the value of the car goes down each year, but what I’m investing in is my quality of life every day. I made my purchase because I liked how the car looked, I liked the safety features it had, and I liked the reliability. Actually, one of the main reasons why I bought it was because of the great crash test ratings it was awarded. I enjoy my Toyota and use it every day therefore I call it a good “investment”.

What else can I spend my money on?

What else do you use every day? It doesn’t matter what this could be. If you use it everyday, and you can afford it then it’s probably something you can feel good about when you spend your money on it.

Things like food and drinks are obvious examples. You have to eat everyday so don’t feel about spending some money on better quality food if you can afford it. Consider it an investment in your health.

You can also spend money on something like a new TV if you’re going to use it every day. Remember, if you can afford it and you’re going to use it every day then it’s probably a good buy. This should make your shopping a lot easier the next time you’re out and looking to buy some new jeans or something. Are you going to wear those every day? LOL

But seriously, The easiest money spending decisions for you to make should be on the things that you use every day. If you’re using it all the time then it’s important to you and you shouldn’t feel bad about spending the money if you can afford it. Whether or not you can afford it is a whole different problem.
