Do we need phones? For most people that answer is most likely “yes”. However, do you really need 1 cell phone for work, 1 personal cell, and 1 house phone too? Most likely you don’t need all that. Instead you can just consolidate down to just your personal phone and save some money too.

I’ve been without a house phone since about 2001 when I got my first cell phone. Before then I was using the house phone all the time, and borrowing cell phones when I needed it. Now I just use my cell phone and never have to borrow anything. My phone always works everywhere that a phone should work.

Not only does my phone work everywhere that a house phone would work, but it also works everywhere else. I understand it might be hard for some people to let go of their house phone, but if you want to save money and budget better then you need to get rid of that redundancy. Unless you have a real need for that house phone get rid of it! Why are you paying extra for something that you already have? It just doesn’t make sense.

What is the best cell phone service you can get?

The “best” cell phone service may be a subjective thing, but you can make a lot of choices out there that will save you money. These days there are lots of choices for services. You have the big 4 with Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint. But you also now have many others like Straight Talk, Cricket, and Republic Wireless, which are all called MVNO’s or MOLO’s. What this means is that they are a wireless communications services provider that doesn’t own the wireless network infrastructure that you are going to be using.

For the past couple years I have been using Republic Wireless and My household cut our bill and increased our services. Something that may be impossible to do at the big 4 cell providers. Republic Wireless is a hybrid calling system that uses Wifi when available to save money on phone calls. We, the user, however don’t even realize that this is all happening. I rarely have problems with my service, and I love my savings.

At the moment there are 2 people in our household and we each have a phone. We pay $10 a month each plus tax which comes out to about $12.50 a month each or $25 for the both of us. We get unlimited talk and text and unlimited Data over Wifi. If we wanted to change to get 3G wifi we could and pay each $25 per month. We can also do 4G for $40 a month.

Before we were paying $70 a month at AT&T for sharing about 700 minutes and no text messaging! Plus we had a dumb phone that didn’t have the capability of getting on the internet. Now we can go online anywhere there’s wifi. Thankfully that’s just about anywhere in our area as we have Comcast for our internet and they provide many wifi hotspots for free around the area. We can use those and our home network. I love it because I can use my smartphone the way it should be used and I don’t have to pay for a data plan.

The other great thing about it is you can change plans up to twice per month for free anytime you want. Say you’re going on vacation and you need data on the road, well turn on the $25 plan and you have it instantly!

Even if we both decided to get unlimited data with Republic Wireless it would be $25 per month each only for the 3G service. So for the both of us that’s $50 plus tax which would still be less than the $70 at AT&T, plus we have unlimited texting and data which we didn’t have. If you’re looking for a lower cost cell phone service plan I highly recommend you give Republic Wireless a try.
